New central heating from £2,500. System design, supply, and installation. Gas Safe registered (972035).

We cover all of Stockton-on-Tees — Norton, Fairfield, Hartburn, Bishopsgarth, Elm Tree, Eaglescliffe, and the Town Centre. Stockton’s got real variety in its housing stock. The Victorian terraces around the town centre and Norton have solid walls and original pipework that needs careful routing. The 1960s-70s estates in Fairfield and Bishopsgarth often still have conventional boilers with gravity-fed setups. Then you’ve got the larger detached properties in Eaglescliffe and Hartburn that benefit from zone controls and properly designed multi-circuit systems. Different properties need different solutions, and we design accordingly.

Common Central Heating Problems We Fix

Uneven heating across the house — Some rooms boiling, others cold. Usually a system balancing issue. The radiators closest to the boiler get all the flow while ones further away get barely any. We balance the system by adjusting lockshield valves so every radiator gets its fair share of hot water. In larger Stockton properties, it can also be undersized pipework or a pump that’s not powerful enough.

Radiators need constant bleeding — Air keeps getting into the system. This usually means a faulty air vent, a leak pulling air in, or hydrogen gas from internal corrosion. Bleeding sorts the symptom but not the cause. We’ll find out why air keeps getting in and fix the root problem.

Thermostat not controlling heating properly — Old bi-metallic thermostats lose accuracy over time. The temperature they display can be several degrees off what the room actually is. Upgrading to a modern digital or smart thermostat gives you proper control and can cut your heating bills noticeably.

Noisy pump or banging pipes — A pump on its way out makes a grinding or humming noise. Banging pipes (water hammer) happen when valves close too quickly or pipework isn’t properly clipped. We’ll identify the source and sort it.

Our Process

Call us or book online and we’ll arrange a survey at your property. We measure every room, assess existing pipework and radiators, check mains water pressure, and discuss what you need from the system. You’ll get a detailed quote within a couple of days with everything broken down. Once you approve, we agree a start date and get materials ordered. Installation takes 2-5 days for most properties. After fitting, we commission the entire system — testing every radiator, checking all controls, verifying gas pressures — and hand over the paperwork.

Stockton’s Housing Stock and Heating Needs

Victorian terraces (town centre, Norton) — Solid brick walls, high ceilings in some, and original pipework layouts that don’t suit modern systems. We route new pipework carefully, boxing in where needed to keep things neat. Many of these properties still run conventional systems with loft tanks. Upgrading to a combi or system boiler removes the tank, frees up airing cupboard space, and improves efficiency. We check mains water pressure first — some of the older terraces have shared supplies that need attention before a combi will work properly.

1960s-70s estates (Fairfield, Bishopsgarth) — Built with conventional heating systems, often with small-bore or microbore pipework. The boilers are frequently on their second or third replacement, but the pipework and radiators are original. Swapping the boiler helps, but if the pipework is restricting flow, the new boiler can’t perform at its best. We’ll assess whether the existing pipework can stay or needs upgrading.

Detached properties (Eaglescliffe, Hartburn) — These larger homes are where zone controls really pay off. No point heating five bedrooms all day when you’re downstairs in the kitchen. We design multi-zone systems with separate programmers for upstairs and downstairs (or more zones if needed), motorised valves, and individual room TRVs. Honeywell EvoHome is popular with homeowners who want smartphone control of every room.

Modern estates (Elm Tree) — Newer builds with combi boilers that are now 10-20 years old. Main issues are boilers reaching end of life and extensions that need additional radiators. We assess whether the existing boiler can handle the extra load or if it needs upgrading at the same time.

System Types We Work On

Combi boilers — Heating and hot water from one unit, no tanks or cylinders. Suits most properties with one bathroom. We install all major brands including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, and Baxi.

System boilers — Paired with an unvented hot water cylinder for strong mains-pressure hot water to multiple bathrooms. Better for larger Eaglescliffe and Hartburn properties where a combi can’t keep up with demand.

Conventional (gravity-fed) — Cold water tank in the loft, hot water cylinder, separate heating circuit. Still found in older Stockton properties. We maintain, upgrade, or replace these depending on what makes sense for your situation.

Prevention Tips

  • Bleed radiators at the start of every heating season to release trapped air
  • Check boiler pressure monthly — it should read between 1 and 1.5 bar when the system’s cold
  • Book an annual boiler service to maintain efficiency and keep your warranty valid
  • Have your magnetic filter cleaned during the annual service
  • Keep furniture away from radiators so heat can circulate properly
  • If you’ve got TRVs, make sure they’re not stuck — turn them from min to max a few times before winter
  • Set your heating on a timer rather than leaving it on constant — a consistent schedule is more efficient

How much does a full central heating system cost in Stockton?

From £2,500 for a smaller property with a straightforward layout. A typical 3-4 bed semi runs between £3,500 and £5,500 depending on the boiler brand, radiator specification, and if you want smart controls or zone systems. Larger detached properties in Eaglescliffe or Hartburn with multi-zone setups can be £5,000 to £8,000. We survey your property and give you an itemised quote so you can see exactly where the money goes. No hidden costs.

Is it worth installing zone controls?

If you’ve got a property with three or more bedrooms, zone controls usually pay for themselves within a few years through lower gas bills. The basic setup splits heating into two zones — upstairs and downstairs — with separate programmers and motorised valves. You can heat the living areas during the day and switch to bedrooms in the evening. For larger properties, we can create more zones. The cost is typically £400-£800 on top of a new system, and it makes a real difference to running costs.

Can I keep my existing radiators with a new system?

Often, yes. If your radiators are in good condition and properly sized for each room, we can connect them to a new boiler and pipework. We’ll check each one for corrosion, leaks, and whether it puts out enough heat for the room size. Sometimes older radiators are undersized by modern standards — especially if the property’s been extended or the room layout has changed. We’ll tell you which ones can stay and which should be replaced.

What smart thermostats do you recommend?

It depends on what you want. For simple smartphone control and scheduling, Hive or Nest work well — easy to use and reliable. For individual room control in larger properties, Honeywell EvoHome or tado let you set different temperatures in every room using wireless TRVs. EvoHome is particularly popular in Eaglescliffe and Hartburn homes where room-by-room control makes a real difference to comfort and running costs. We install all of these and can advise which suits your property.

Do you repair existing central heating systems?

Yes. Leaks, circulation problems, cold radiators, pump failures, valve issues, thermostat faults — we diagnose and repair all central heating problems. If a repair makes sense, we’ll fix it. If the system’s reached the point where you’re spending more on repairs than a new one would cost, we’ll tell you straight. We carry common parts on the van so most repairs are done on the first visit.
